How to Develop a Strong Web Presence With SEO as a Mortgage Professional

According to Business Insider, "every business with a website should make Search Engine Optimization -- trying to get your site as high up as possible on Google and Bing search-results pages -- a part of their growth strategy." If you have a fledgling mortgage business, one of the best ways to jumpstart your company's growth is to build a strong web presence.

Relationships are key in building company growth, but online credibility goes a long way too. Many people search for mortgage professionals through online queries – your web presence plays a huge role in attracting clients. Here's where SEO comes in: "At its most basic, ‘SEO’ means finding ways to increase your site's appearance in web visitors' search results. This generally means more traffic to your site."

If you're ready to start building your website, and generating more clients, here are a few SEO basics to help you grow your online presence as a mortgage professional.

Find Your Keywords

Before you start implementing SEO basics, it's important to hone in on your company's keywords. Your keywords should tie directly to your services, industry terms, and your company's identifying factors. If you already have a website, use a Google Instant tool such as UberSuggest and the Google Keyword Tool to identify primary, secondary, and/or long tail keyword(s) to help you develop more compelling copy.

A little more on finding key words/phrases: your primary keyword phrases will most likely be used as page titles while being repeated 2-3 times naturally in the body copy. Secondary keyword phrases are also vital to SEO, often coming in as title tags and appearing 1-2 times in the body copy.

Long tail keyword phrases can be question-based, such as “find a home lender” or “best mortgage lending services." When incorporated into body text, these keywords maximize your website's visibility with user searches.

Don't Underestimate the Power of Page Titles

Once you've identified your keywords, start using them in page titles. According to PC World, "the title tag and page header are the two most important spots to put keywords.”

As you're building your website, be sure to include one or two keywords in your title - while keeping within good search copywriting guidelines. If your page title is brief, you can include your company's name at the end of it – just remember to try to stay under 70 characters.

Optimize Your Site's Body Copy

If applicable, and as naturally as possible, incorporate your primary keyword in the body copy (i.e. mortgage practice), prominently near the top of the page if possible. Be sure to include primary and secondary keywords at least 1-2 times, including variations. If the page does not have a lot of content, then at least one mention of the keyword targeted in the title is required.

Pepper Your Site With Internal Links

An often-overlooked SEO basic: integrating internal links into your site. According to SEO Consult, an internal link "is an easy way to boost traffic to individual pages." Internal links improve your web presence by not only keeping visitors on your site longer, but also by encouraging visitors to access deeper levels of your mortgage website.

By implementing these basic SEO tips, you'll improve your mortgage business' web presence – a valuable tool for creating business. So don't delay! Start improving your web traffic today.
