The More Your Customers Know, the More Success Your Solar Business Will Have
Providing your solar customers with reliable solar systems is just one part of being a successful solar installation company. But in order to edge out the competition in this highly competitive field, you need to go the extra mile. One way to do this is to provide your customers with the know-how they need to ensure their solar system is always performing at its best.
Remember, your customers are making an investment in solar, so you want to do everything you can to help them get the most out of their systems. Therefore, it’s never too late to remind your customers about basic solar panel maintenance and what their warranty covers.
Explaining Solar Panel Maintenance
Solar panels are very durable pieces of equipment, and they require very little maintenance. But your customers need to know that there are some things they will need to do if they want their systems working at peak performance over the long-term.
One of the most important things a homeowner needs to do is wash their solar panels at least two to four times per year using a garden hose or hire a professional to do the job if the panels are installed on a roof. This will remove any layers of dust or dirt that have accumulated on the surface of the panels. The length of time between washings depends on the customer’s climate and whether they live in a dusty area, so some may need to clean their panels several times per year.
Unless your customer has a tracking mount for their solar panels, the parts installed on the exterior of the home have no moving parts, so the chance of something going wrong with something outside of the home is minimal. Therefore, you should instruct them to monitor any change in performance that isn’t caused by dirty panels.
Warranty Coverage
After installing a solar system, review the system’s warranty with the customer. Make sure they know what is covered and for how long. Most equipment comes with power output warranties that guarantee panel performance won’t fall below a specific level for the length of the warranty, which is usually 25 years.
A secondary warranty may also be included that guarantees the system will produce no less than 90 percent power output over the first ten years. It is important that the customer know the warranties for each individual component as well as the warranty on the overall installation.
